  • ipw2200 mysterius

Let’s try to help some acer-laptop-users. :) I’ve been some time trying to get my ipw2200 wlan working on Linux on my Acer Travelmate 6003LCi. For a short time it worked, but after an update to the 1.0.1 drivers the chip refused proper work. Everyone who is smart would search the debug-output in the syslog.…

  • New article in German PHP Magazin

The issue 3.2005 of the German PHP Magazin can now be bought in your favorite bookstore. My article "Eingebettet" is about JavaScript based WYSIWYG editors like htmlArea, FCKeditor, Spaw, TinyMCE, Kevin Roth’s Cross-Browser Rich Text Editor, Mozile and Bitflux Editor. All these editors are open source software and working in IE 5.5.+, Mozilla 1.3+ and…

  • Attend Ilia’s talk keeping yourself in a sweet place :)

I like this idea, having live talks online about php or related topics. Ilia will give a talk about performace and php in the 2nd Live Talk of PHP|Symphony. Having seen Ilia’s talk about similar topics (and discussed them a lot), it’s worth the price to attend, and learning php performance, with croissant, coffee and…

  • PHP’s USP No. 1: getting things done fast. Period. (PHP in the Enterprise)

This week I gave a two-days power workshop "PHP in big projects" ("PHP in Großprojekten", as it was in German) on the conference "Entwicklertage", organized by the Software & Support publishing house. One of the topics was to tell how companies save millions of Euros by choosing PHP (like E.ON, for example) instead of Java.…

  • PHP5 poster!

Just have a look at this wonderful image. It shows a PHP5 poster, sponsored by Zend and our company and designed by one of our employees and me, that tells you about all the new things that come with PHP5. From the new object-orientated model to the new PHP extensions like SimpleXML, mysqli, sqlite, SPL…

  • Review: Professionelle Softwareentwicklung mit PHP5

The last couple of days I was reading the book „Professionelle Softwareentwicklung mit PHP5“ written by Sebastian Bergmann. Sebastian has a nice style of describing parts of software engineering with less words like other authors. Because of this the book has only 200 pages but it’s really cheap with 29 EUR for a technical literature.

  • Your grand mother is a terrorist

A US judge asked how broadly the government viewed its power to hold detainees. The administration lawyers answered that they believe the president would even have the right to lock up „a little old lady from Switzerland“ for the duration of the war on terror, if she had written checks to a charity that she…
